Personal Legend

Hi everyone and welcome to my travel blog. The title, "Personal Legend" was inspired by the book The Alchemist authored by Paulo Coelho. Hopefully it can somewhat serve as inspiration to all of those who are considering "checking out" for a while or taking a trip to find their own Personal Legend. I am creating this to not only keep in touch with everyone but to also keep people current during my "Walkabout". I will attempt to update it every week and a half (or so) with new pictures ( and some commentary). If anyone is interested in meeting up with me along the journey or has any suggestions of some "can't miss" destinations, just drop me a note.

Sorry it took a while to put together but I wanted it properly populated upon rollout.

Enjoy.

Budapest, Mykonos, Istanbul, Ephesus

Greetings Everyone,

The last 2 weeks have been a bit hectic for me on the "road" but all is going well.  After 10 days in Budapest, I met Joleen in Mykonos and we were stranded due to the labor strikes in Greece for a few extra days (I know, let's not all cry at once). Our following destination, Turkey, had an earthquake just before heading there and Thailand (where I plan to visit after Turkey) appears to be having some serious flood issues... I sure know how to pick destinations.  Meanwhile, I am reading that things are bit off kilter back home with Earthquakes and the Occupy Wall Street protests.  Aside from that, the Cardinals just won the World Series, no NBA until at least December, the Colts can't win a game and how 'bout them Niners!!!

Enjoy.

Budapest - Fun Fact: A lot of people aren't aware of this but Budapest is actually 2 cities separated by the Danube River; Buda and Pest.

Hero Square:

Gellert Hill:  Gellert came to Budapest to spread Christianity. At some point Hungarians got tired of him, put him in a barrell with 1,000 nails and rolled him down this hill into the Danube River.  True story... look it up.

Esphesus -  Ephesus was once a great Greek City and then a Great Roman City.  Under Roman Rule, it was the second largest City o the Roman Empire, after Rome.  Aside from the many ruins that were covered during a large earthquake in 614 A.D., it houses the site where it is said the Virgin Mary spent her last days.

Prague & Vienna

Visited Prague for a few days last week and the city was absolutely amazing.  A bit too "touristy" for my tastes but definitely happy I visited.  For a less touristy feel, I was told that Czesky Krumlov can be quite enjoyable.  Outside of the standard Old Town, Charles Bridge and Astronomical Clock, I went to an Absinthe Bar... and that's pretty much it.

From Prague I went to Vienna, Austria and visited the Museum quarter as well as the Hundertwasser Museum.  I took in the opera as well; pretty good deal, standing room for only 4 Euro.
